The Pavillion Youth Cafe
/The core of Pavillion’s service offer is a drop-in service for Minis, Juniors and Seniors with the breakdown of sessions offered being as follows:
Term-time: Minis (P1-P3) Tue/Thu 3.30-5.30; Juniors (P4-P7) Mon/Wed/Fri 4pm to 6pm.
Seniors (S1–18 years) Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat 6.30pm-9.30pm 6pm-10pm.
School Holidays: P1-P7 children weekdays 9.30am to 1pm; S1 upwards 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
During the last full-year before the pandemic (to March 2020) we supported 87 Minis / Juniors and 98 Seniors (including 18 young people in our specific Girls Group) in addition to 48 primary school pupils who were supported through our school holiday activities.
Specific additional projects are then developed around this core, these including for example, specific initiatives in areas such as young people’s mental health, volunteering support and recognition of attainment. These in-house activities are complemented by the use of our facility on a lettable basis for a number of community-based activities.
During the “lockdown” period, we were able to maintain engagement with young people by working in partnership with other youth organisations across the East End on a unique online programme (The Game - Glasgow East) which involved us developing and delivering quality assured online content in areas such as mental health, heritage, oral health, fitness, cooking, storytelling, music and dance. This let us continue to deliver on outcomes agreed with existing funders in line with mission and objectives. We have also commenced an innovative Scottish Government funded project (“Pavillion Plus”) that seeks to provide low cost childcare in a youth work setting.
On returning to some element of face-to-face activity, we have made modifications to service provision and numbers to allow us to deliver services safely within government guidelines and this activity is now ramping up, though we expect contractual work and lets to only gradually recover over the course of the year.
