Community-led health is a way for people in a community to take joint action to improve things for their community, leading to improved health and wellbeing.

Health and wellbeing is about much more than the treatment of illness and wider economic, social, cultural and environmental factors play a fundamental role in shaping the health of people and their communities.

By targeting the provision of support to people and communities experiencing health inequalities, disadvantage and marginalisation, this community development approach to health can lead to improved health and wellbeing not only for those involved but also for the wider community.

Community-led health also drives preventative approaches that focus on building and sustaining good health and wellbeing and preventing ill health from occurring.
