Comunn Eachdraidh Nis
/Comunn Eachdraidh Nis houses an accredited museum, café, gift shop, community archive and exhibitions within the former Cross Primary School. There is also a polycrub on site for visiting groups in which we grow some of the produce served in the café. The number of staff can vary from five upwards depending on the time of year and the number of project funded posts. There are currently eleven employees. We are open from 10am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday and also open on Saturday during the busy summer months. We cater for small functions, offer room hire for meetings and conferences and host local community groups who meet at the centre.
Since its inception in 1977, CEN has been a community-led, community-focused organisation with a desire to develop an asset for the local area. It has become an innovative and welcoming community hub, with various groups using it regularly for gatherings and events, including the day club for elderly and housebound members of the community and an after school club. The centre houses a museum, galleries, cafe, gift shop and local history archive.
