Out and about: LGBT Health and Wellbeing

Keeping up to date with the brilliant work that community-led health organisations are doing to improve people’s health and wellbeing is an important part of the job for the CHEX Team.

Recently, Sarah was in Edinburgh, meeting with Michelle from LGBT Health and Wellbeing at their offices in Leith.

LGBT Health and Wellbeing is Scotland’s health and wellbeing charity for LGBTQ+ adults, including older people and New Scots.  With premises in Edinburgh and Glasgow, the charity provides a range of services including counselling and mental health support. There is also a vibrant and varied social programme of events in both cities, including a range of groups run by and for the community.

A key part of their work is the well-established LGBT+ Helpline, which is available nationally across Scotland. They also work with the trans and non binary community through trans support projects in Edinburgh and Glasgow – if those services or support might be useful to you or people you work with, please do get in touch.

There's more on all these different activities, plus information and resources (including training) on the LGBT Health and Wellbeing website.

If you've got some great community-led health work going on in your area, let us know!

We're always looking for good examples and case studies to showcase in Snippets and on our website. You can email Sheena, our comms person, who is always happy to chat.
