Out and about: Deep End GPs Student Conference

Raising awareness among national networks and professional societies about CHEX, and how community-led health can help tackle health inequalities, is an important part of the job for the CHEX team.

One way we do that is to provide inputs and workshops at other national network organisation’s events and conferences.

Sarah was recently invited to provide an input on CHEX and community development approaches to tackling health inequalities at a Conference held in February by the Glasgow University General Practice Society in Ferguslie Park, Paisley.

GUGP is a welcoming society for medical students passionate about general practice and the focus for their conference was the work of General Practitioners at the Deep End.  GPs at the Deep End work in 100 general practices serving the most socio-economically deprived populations in Scotland (where 44-88% of registered patients live in the 15% most deprived data zones.)

At the conference Sarah heard from other inspirational organisations who were engaged in general practice, community-led health and wellbeing work or were interested in finding out more about how to incorporate elements of it into their practice.

The event included inputs from other people, including students from the SCOTGEM graduate entry medical programme, Govan SHIP, the Parkhead Financial Advice Project, the World Health Organisation and an example of local community-led health in action from the Tannahill Centre.

If you are involved in health and wellbeing and would like to find out more about community-led health and its relevance to the role of your profession or organisation, we’d love to hear from you!  We are always up for attending a meeting to share info on all things CHEX and learn about the community-led health practice in your area.

Email Sarah if you’d like to chat to us about your work!
