Young People and the power of HIIC - CHEX Conference workshop

In this workshop you’ll hear from Health Issues in the Community (HIIC) tutor Kirsty Chapman. Kirsty works at Castlemilk Youth Complex based in the Southside of Glasgow and delivers HIIC to young people in the area.

Kirsty will share her community youth work journey in Castlemilk and how shadowing other HIIC tutors sparked a desire to become a HIIC tutor herself.

She will share insightful knowledge of working with young people and how we can encourage them to become actively engaged in their communities. What’s worked and what’s been a challenge.

Kirsty will explain how Castlemilk Youth Complex has developed strong partnerships with two of the local high schools where she delivers HIIC. We’ll then discuss in small groups how to introduce HIIC in our communities and the challenges this may bring. There will be an opportunity to ask Kirsty questions that arise during the session.

You’ll also hear from Kirsty’s amazing HIIC group (via video) and how these young people have been making positive powerful changes in their area by tackling issues that are important to them and their communities.

This workshop will leave you feeling inspired, excited, and in awe of the young people of Castlemilk.

In the meantime check out this interview with Kirsty chatting about her current HIIC group and what they have been up to. You can watch the interview here.
